Dawn Marie MacSporran Makes a Statement with Driftwood
This week's artist, Dawn Marie MacSporran, hails from Niagara Falls, Canada. She works her magic using unaltered driftwood to create magnificent sculptures of life-sized animals. These unique masterpieces definitely make a statement!
How do animals inspire your artwork?
I love animals. I love that each has a distinguishing feature that can be highlighted through my work!
What medium do you work in?
Mostly driftwood but I use accents of other natural elements, such as shells, occasionally.
Do you have any pets?
I've owned quite a few dogs throughout my life. My current dog, My golden doodle, Dexter, is the love of my life (besides my husband) lol.
How long have you been creating art?
I've been creating art all my life. I've sketched, painted, airbrushed, decorated cakes and graphic designed. But, just recently stumbled onto driftwood sculpting!
What is your favorite piece of artwork you’ve created?
My favourite piece of artwork would be my driftwood sculpture called "TABACON" he's a life size lion lounging in the grass.
If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
Not that's it's an animal, but I would be a bird. Love the idea of the freedom of flying!
What are three of your favorite animal inspired movies?
8 Below, Turner and Hooch, and War Horse.
